FAQ
How many days a week should a beginner go to the gym?
For beginners, 3 days a week is the sweet spot. It gives your muscles time to recover between sessions while building a consistent habit. As your fitness improves, you can increase to 4 or 5 days. At Elevate, our trainers help you plan a weekly schedule that fits your lifestyle, not one that burns you out in the first month.
What should I do on my first day at the gym?
Your first day should be about orientation, not exhaustion. Arrive early, meet a trainer, and get a walkthrough of the equipment. Do a light warm-up, 10 minutes of cardio, followed by 3 to 4 basic exercises your trainer recommends.
What is the best exercise for women who want to lose weight and stay toned?
A combination of cardio and light resistance training works best for fat loss and toning. Group fitness classes, Zumba, and treadmill intervals are great starting points for cardio.
How long does it take to see results from going to the gym?
Most people begin to feel a difference between better sleep, more energy, and less stress within 2 to 3 weeks. Visible physical changes typically take 6 to 8 weeks of consistent training and reasonable nutrition
What should I eat before and after a gym workout?
Before a workout, aim for easily digestible carbohydrates and a little protein, such as a banana, oats, or eggs, about 60 to 90 minutes before training. After a workout, your body needs protein and carbohydrates to recover, think a protein shake with fruit, rice with chicken or Greek yoghurt.
Do I need to be fit before joining a wellness club?
No, this is one of the most common misconceptions that stops people from starting. Wellness clubs and gyms exist precisely for people who are not
Is 3 days a week at the gym enough to see real results?
Yes, for most people, three well-structured sessions per week is enough to produce consistent, visible results.
Can I work out during my period?
Yes, for most women, light to moderate exercise during a period is completely safe and can actually reduce cramps, bloating, and fatigue by improving blood circulation and releasing endorphins. The type of exercise that feels manageable varies person to person. Some women train at full intensity throughout, others prefer yoga, stretching, or light cardio on certain days.
I have back pain. Can I still join a gym or will it make things worse?
In most cases, the right kind of exercise significantly helps back pain rather than worsening it, particularly core strengthening, mobility work, and low-impact cardio like swimming. The important thing is having a qualified trainer who understands your condition and builds a programme that avoids aggravating movements.
Will I bulk up if I do weight training as a woman?
No, this is one of the most persistent fitness myths that stops women from getting the results they actually want. Women have significantly lower testosterone levels than men, which means building large muscle bulk through weight training is physiologically very difficult without specific, extreme programming designed for that goal.
